Welcome
Welcome to the La Plata County Democratic Party web site. We are trying to make the world, and our corner of it, a better place for all - and we are determined to have a good time doing it!
Yes We Did!
Congratulations La Plata County Democrats!
Here are links to two PDF files put up by the County Clerk's office listing results of all 30 precincts. The provisional ballots are still being counted so the total results will change slightly.
Check out this NY Times interactive map which shows all kinds of results using color shading. Click on Colorado to see a display of all counties. Note that every county in the state went more democratic in this election than in 2004.

| Durango Campaign Office |
| Our campaign office at 1021 Main Ave. in Durango was really hopping as the election was near. Lots of items finally came in from various campaigns and were being given away free.
The office is now closed.
| Obama Rally on 10/24. |
| There is no way the McCain campaign could have missed the outstanding support Obama has in Durango. On the left is a view from his motorcade, and on the right is a typical view of how it looked along Main.
The Durango Herald put up a series of photos and an article on the event. Local photographer Jeremy Wade Shockley created this photo essay about our rally.
New York Times photographer Stephen Crowley said that we were the most beautiful stop he'd seen and the number of Obama supporters was the most he'd seen at any McCain event. Crowley even commented about the civility shown. Thank you to all who participated!
| Rally with Mark Udall and John Salazar |
| On Thursday afternoon, 10/23, a bunch of excited folks attended a rally at the Durango Arts Center to encourage GOTV efforts. We listened to a nice introduction from Linda Campbell, then heard rousing talks from John Salazar and Mark Udall. After the rally, a variety of the crowd, including quite a few students from Fort Lewis, headed to the courthouse to drop off their mailed ballots, or to vote early. | |
| FAC - Discussing Ballot Issues |
| A lively group of Dems got together for a Friday afternoon club on 10/17 to discuss the ballot issues, socialize, and share political thoughts. | |
| Open Shutter Gallery Hosts a Fundraiser for Wally White |
| On Friday, 9/26, a festive and fun fundraiser was held for Wally White to help him in his re-election bid for La Plata County Commissioner. The photo at left shows the front of the Gallery and the photo at right shows the start of the event as the crowd started to gather. Good food, an extensive silent auction, and good conversation. Several went from this event to the Abbey Theatre to watch the first presidential debate. | |
| Yard Sign Vandalism |
| On 10/18, Obama yard signs in the Animas City part of Durango were ruined. One had been burned, defecated upon, and then placed on the hood of a car. Other Obama signs on the same block were burned and another was broken in half and placed on the hood of a car.
On 10/28, several Obama signs along US160 were defaced and swastikas drawn on them.
It is certainly discouraging to find that some of our neighbors would do such things.
We have heard of numerous other instances of Obama signs being destroyed or stolen.
How to deal with this? Like Barack would; stay cool, unflappable, and stay on the issues!
