Dear ##vFirstName##,
The election is only 70 days away. Are you doing something to help? Attending an event? Encouraging your friends and neighbors? Remember that our downtown Durango office is open at 1101 Main (across the intersection from the old post office building). Stop by, or call 970-403-1770.
Events

The La Plata Dems annual picnic is this Saturday, August 28th starting at noon at the Isgar Ranch, CR213 (La Posta Road, follow the balloons!). Please see this flyer for further information. In addition to all local candidates, we will be welcoming Mary Lou Salazar to the picnic.
Our "Artists for Progress" event will be held Saturday, September 4th at the Open Shutter Gallery starting at 6 pm. Only 100 tickets will be sold (each ticket is a chance to win a work of art) and many artists (listed below) are contributing terrific items. There will be gourmet food and wine provided. Use this link to purchase tickets, or see this flyer for further information.
A special thanks to the contributing artists: Barbara Tobin Klema, Becca Conrad (Whitehead), Bob Spencer, Casey Correia, Connie Imig, D. Help out at HQ
Thanks very much to everyone who helped staff the La Plata County Fair booth! We had a great time, and most of us were able to see beautiful quilts, flowers, bunnies, and other great exhibits between shifts.
We still could use some help filling shifts at headquarters. Please contact margaret.durango@gmail.com, at 970-799-2314, or call the office at 970-403-1770 if you have some time Monday through Saturday.
Please stop by HQ and pick up yard signs; one of the quickest ways to increase visibility and name recognition for candidates.
We now have a brochure at HQ with brief talking points for all local candidates! Be better prepared to support the Democratic candidate of your choice -- or all of them! (Thanks to Anne Markward for spearheading this project.)
Volunteer opportunities
Please consider helping the La Plata Dems reach out to the public and serve our community. It's a lot of fun and you'll be spending time with great people.
We are collecting food for the Soup Kitchen. The La Plata County Democrats have donation cans and cash envelopes at our headquarters at 1101 Main Avenue in Durango. Please bring whatever you have to donate that is within the expiration date and we will deliver it for you! Let us help you help others! Office number is: 970-403-1770.
Volunteer to help prepare and serve breakfast at Manna Soup Kitchen on the 2nd and 5th Sundays of each month. We start about 8am.
Volunteer to help a specific campaign. All candidates are listed on our 2010 Election Page.
Letters
One short letter to the editor is worth a thousand words; voters read them, talk about them, and at some level, even if they never say a word, react to them. Help garner support for your candidate or issue -- write a letter to the editor today! It is pretty easy as well. Click on the following links to enter your letters online:
