The time and date of the Precinct Caucuses this year is 7pm March 16, 2010.
Please show up a bit before 7 so that the check-in process can be handled more easily.
Location
The location and contact person of all the Democratic Party caucuses in La Plata County are given by precinct in a table on the Caucus Location Page.
Primary Purposes
There are 3 primary purposes for the Caucus:
- Selection of delegates to the County Assembly
- Election of two persons to the La Plata County Democratic Party Central Committee
- Grass-roots discussions about local elections and issues
Caucus Delegates per Precinct
Each precinct is given a number of delegates (minimum of 2) based on the previous election turnout for that precinct, and on how many delegates the County Executive Committee decides to seat at the County Assembly (April 10, 2010). This year, there will be 125 Delegates at the County Assembly. The Caucus Location Page also shows the number of delegates assigned to each precinct.

Caucus Rules
While the caucus is typically a somewhat informal process, there are rules put in place by the State Democratic Party to help guide the process.

Caucus Math
As the selection of delegates is to be proportional based on the votes of the caucus attendees, some math is required to determine how many delegates that is.

Caucus Resolutions
The Progressive Democrats of Colorado have put together a list of Platform Resolutions that they would like to have each Caucus consider. They have this web site with more details and a link to the list of resolutions.
